I wanted to hop on and list a few "Frequently asked questions aka FAQ'S" as well as mention some important information and activities coming up! First to keep up with the most recent information, I post a lot to my Sherry Janis Photography facebook page, so be sure to give that a like and also follow me over on Insta!
The latest most popular question or the most popular question I get anytime during the year is WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK A SESSION???? Here at Sherry Janis Photography we begin shooting the incoming class in July and we shoot every single month till graduation! Things to consider when choosing a month that is best for you...what is your senior's schedule? Is fall busy? Spring busy? The whole school year busy? Then a summer shoot is best for you! As soon as we've finished a session in the summer - EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.... the parent gives a sigh and says "yes! check that off the list!". Summer sessions are liked by seniors because they still have their tans (thats what they say first!), anyone wanting cotton field shots or perhaps farming families may want shots with their crops or even during harvest (see several blogs down for those sessions) the gyms and stadiums are usually easier to get into because no-one is at school yet, there's really no "con" to booking a summer shoot except the heat...how do we deal with that? fans, jumping in and out of the car for AC, and planning the shoot during the evenings (if girls are getting hair and makeup, I definitely can recommend some excellent MUA who will make sure your makeup and hair doesn't move!
Fall and Spring? Everyone loves those months! But those are the months that book up the quickest. Don't wait too long in the spring - always know your deadlines for when you need images back for yearbook, senior serve, announcements. Fall is one of my favorite times because you get that warm glow of fall, spring you get the spring flowers - but spring is also very busy for school activities so plan ahead and book ahead!
In order to give my absolute best self to my seniors, I limit the amount of seniors I take on each year. I put in a lot of hours for each session and I give it my absolute all during the shoot. Planning before the shoot, the shoot and then setting aside time for the viewing and ordering appointment where we choose images for your albums, wall art, picking fabric for albums etc - after the ordering session is over is when I sit down and work on each image that you chose. Each image gets my own hand-edit and each image is seriously thought about. The creation of albums, designing the layout, packaging orders, etc.... I don't take sessions lightly when you've chosen me out of all the amazing photographers in the area. So this is why I only take on a particular number of seniors. Its not about "how many seniors can I fill the calendar with", its about knowing how many I want to take on that I can devote my best self to. I never want to rush through a session or rush editing because my plate is so full.
Can we book for 2025? Yes! I have already booked Class of 2025 senior sessions and it seems each year the upcoming class is booking earlier and earlier. If you are lost in the world of photographers and 'who to book'? Come see me in my studio here in beautiful Inez. In-person consultations are a great way to see if we are BOTH a great fit for each other! Come in, see my work and find out all you need to know about senior sessions and what to expect....things have changed drastically since I was a senior (long time ago!). Now is a great time for class of 2025 to come in, ask questions and get an idea about what to plan for senior year. I have had 3 sons graduate and my 4th and last son is also a 2025 senior, so I can help navigate those waters!
What's coming up for the next few months? We are entering what I call the busiest time of year for photographers! Its the last few months before MAY - and time is gonna fly! After a good break over the Holidays, I am back at shooting senior sessions and I am also going to be attending a photography conference or two to continue learning from some of the top senior photographers in the country. I am so excited to meet back up with photographers I have met that are scattered all across the US and have a passion for high school senior photography. I truly believe in continued education.
My Senior Inspirer team will be meeting up in February for our 'color powder' group shoot and in March we will be having our annual "Project Beauty" - be sure to watch the video on my website for information on that!
