Happy New Year! I thought this was the perfect time to re-intruduce myself because its been quite a while!
Welcome and I'm glad you stopped by, I am Sherry Janis - CEO/Owner of Sherry Janis Photography! A little bit about myself: I have been married to my husband Matthew for 27 years and I have 4 grown amazing sons and the "bestest" daughter-in-law! My youngest is a junior in high school. I love everything about travel and history, and although I love to travel, I also love being at home gardening when I'm not driving to watch my youngest son play sports.
In a nutshell, I've always loved photography. Way before I decided to create a photography business, I have always loved 'taking pictures' and have owned cameras with 'film' (I'm dating myself now!).
I specialize in High School Senior portraits and that is what I shoot 90-95% of the time - I absolutely love working with this age group and with 3 sons already graduated, I know exactly the emotions that parents go through during the 12th year- its a rollercoaster ride for sure! When I'm not capturing high school seniors, I am usually working with cheer and sports groups for their team and individual pictures as well as creating banners.
The past year has had a lot of milestone things that happened - at the beginning of this year I received CPP certification. What is a CPP? CPP stands for 'Certified Professional Photographer". Many trades and occupations have their threshold of professionalism. Plummers, HVAC, to name a couple all must be certified, pass tests, take yearly continued education etc.... the photography trade does not have a mandated certification so it can get very confusing when you see the title 'photographer" as that can be anyone who just got a camera for Christmas and or it can be someone who has been in the photography business for 30-40 years and really knows their stuff! The Professional Photographers Association has created a way for all photographers to become "Certified Professional Photographers". After passing a written exam, you must submit 3 images to be technically evaluated and meet all criteria.
Another milestone is opening my studio where I can hold in-person consultations, ordering appointments and also do some in-studio photography. Feel free to contact me via my website to set up a meeting!
What's happening in 2024? My Senior Inspirer group will be having my 3rd annual Project Beauty. The video for this is on my website and its a wonderful project that we work on in the spring! I have some continued education conferences and classes planned - no matter how long you've been shooting, photography is always evolving and there's always something to learn. We are on the downside of shooting sessions for the Class of 2024, and I look forward to the next few months of creating unique sessions for the seniors.
I would like to thank all of my family, friends and clients for your support this past year. I love all the friendships I have made on this journey and look forward to the ones I will meet in the future!
